5 Helpful Gifts for the Woodworker and DIY’er

If you’re here, you’re one of those intentional people who lovingly takes care of each person on your gift list. No, really! It means that you know someone who is a woodworker/DIY’er and you want to get them something to show them that they matter and that their interests matter to you!

If the whole woodworking scene isn’t something you know much about, but you want to get a gift for someone who loves the trade, then below you will find 5 gift ideas that may help you decide on just the right thing! I will explain each item that I post and why they will love it.

1. Painter’s Pyramids

• These little things are a complete life saver when it comes to getting a nice finish on a piece! They hold up a project so that you can put paint/stain/poly on both sides without messing up the looks of your piece. By using these, time is saved because you don’t need to wait for one side to dry before flipping it and working on the other side.
• I use these little guys for just about every project, but I always wish that I had more! So, if they’re anything like me, your woodworking loved one would super appreciate this little gift. They would even make a great stocking stuffer!

2. FastCap 10 Million Dollar Stick

• Here’s one for safety! This was one of the first things that I bought when I was starting this woodworking journey, and for good reason. The name of the stick says it all. It implies that each of your fingers is worth one million dollars, so using it will help you keep all of them intact!
• I use it the most with my miter saw, and I have been so grateful that I can make tiny little cuts without getting my fingers anywhere near the sharp blade. It has little rubber grippies on each end that go on the wood you’re cutting and another solid surface. Then, you hold the middle of the stick, and your fingers are safe!
• This gift idea is actually the whole reason that I made this post! I was helping a friend build a shoe shelf for her closet, and she was asking me about this stick. As I explained to her what it does, she said that she would love to get one for her dad who is a woodworker.

3. Work Gloves

• All woodworkers go through gloves at different rates, but let me tell you, they go through ‘em. They provide a great deal of protection from splinters and gashes. Gloves are like a hero’s cape in my opinion. When you put them on, you feel like you can take on the world!
  • I have used a couple of brands of gloves, and they are both very affordable:
    • Handyman Flex Grip– These were the first ones that I bought, and they are really comfortable! I especially like the thick padding on the knuckles and the palms.
    • Firm Grip Gloves– Besides offering protection, these ones are awesome because you can still use a touch screen with the pointer finger!
• You can’t go wrong with either of these brands, and your woodworking loved one will greatly appreciate them as well!

4. FastCap GluBot

• There are some awesome things about this little bottle. First of all, buying a large jug of wood glue is MUCH less expensive per ounce than buying smaller bottles. But when you have that large jug, it can be hard to actually get it on your wood. That’s where the GluBot comes in! It’s an easy to squeeze bottle with a couple of different nozzles to help drizzle the glue.
• Another awesome part about it is that you can squeeze the glue out from any angle. You don’t need to be holding the bottle upside down to get the glue to come out, which makes it really easy to put a line of glue on a vertical piece of wood. If the woodworker/DIY’er you know doesn’t already have one of these helpful bottles, run, don’t walk to get them one!

5. Staining Pads

• These are something that seem like a bit of a splurge to me. Staining pads are typically not reusable, and a lot of the time I try to be frugal with my supplies, but a person can spend copious amounts of time staining with just a foam brush or a rag. Staining pads make this job SO much faster and easier. They are able to absorb a lot of stain, it goes on very smoothly and evenly, and it cuts the time spent staining at least in half.
• If the woodworker you know makes larger projects, or makes a lot of something at a time (think Etsy), these will help them greatly!

Overall, I think you are a wonderful person for encouraging your loved one’s hobby or profession! Most of these would make great stocking stuffers, or an add-on to another gift you’ve been eyeing. It can be hard to think of gifts for everyone you love, so I hope that this short list will help take off some of the stress and help you decide!
